His Holiness Pope Shenouda III
Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church
Sovereign Grand Master is Honored
In 1989, the Grand Master of The Religious and Military Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem was invited to attend the Coptic Papal visit to St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church in Denver, Colorado. While there, the Grand Master held several conversations with H.H. Pope Shenouda, who invited the Grand Master for a private audience. At the end of the day, Pope Shenouda honored the Grand Master by presenting to him the Papal Visitation Medal. The Pope also invited the Grand Master to visit the Papal Palace in Alexandria, Egypt. The Papal Visitation Medal was struck in a limited edition and presented by H.H. Pope Shenouda to select persons during the 1989 Coptic Papal tour of the United States. To receive the Medal was (and is) considered a great honor. Many consider the Medal to be a relic from a living saint.
