Blessed Mary Theotokos
The Intercessor of The Religious and Military Order
Knights of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem
Mary the God-Bearer
Known in the West as Mary the Mother of God, the Virgin is known in the East as "Mary Theotokos," which means "Mary the God-Bearer." In both Western and Eastern Orders of Chivalry, as in both Western and Eastern Christianity, Mary holds a special place in the hearts of all believers. Eastern Monks say that "He who welcomes the Mother, also welcomes the Son; but he who rejects the Mother must finally reject the Son." Mary's Royal status (and that of Jesus) is made quite clear in the genealogy of the Royal House of David given in the New Testament.
Chevaliers and Dames of The Religious and Military Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem find in Mary's protection of the young Jesus the ideal model of the protective power and courtesy which all true Knights are to show to those who are in need.
